Description
Rodril 30 ml contains Racecadotril is a drug that helps to alleviate symptoms of acute (short-term) diarrhoea in adults and infants above 3 months of age. It may be used with other drugs when acute diarrhoea cannot be controlled by conventional means. Acute diarrhoea is the sudden onset of three or more loose or watery stools per day that may last up to 14 days.
How Racecadotril Works
The active substance in Racecadotril is also referred to as ‘Racecadotril’. It exists in an inactive form, which is a prodrug and is activated in the body into the active compound ‘thiorphan’. Thiorphan acts by acting on the epithelial tissue of the small intestine so that it can decrease the excessive water and electrolyte loss due to inflammation or toxins like those produced by cholera. It provides quick relief from diarrhoea without affecting the normal time it takes for food to pass through the digestive tract (bowel transit time).
How to Take Racecadotril
Always take Racecadotril exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The duration and dosage will depend on your specific health condition and your doctor’s recommendation.
Possible Side Effects
During the use of Racecadotril, some individuals might suffer from light side effects like headache, rash on the skin, or redness. These symptoms are normally fleeting and disappear by themselves. But if the symptoms endure or increase in severity, consult your physician.
When to Talk to Your Doctor
You must consult your physician if you have a fever, notice blood or pus in your stool, have long-term (chronic) diarrhoea, antibiotic-associated diarrhoea, or kidney or liver disease. You should also tell your physician if you have been vomiting frequently or severely. If your condition does not improve after 7 days of using Racecadotril, get medical advice.
Precautions and Warnings
If you are pregnant or lactating, consult with your doctor prior to using Racecadotril. Racecadotril is not recommended for children below 3 months of age. Avoid consuming alcohol during treatment with Racecadotril. Inform your healthcare provider about your ongoing health conditions and other medications you are currently taking to avoid possible side effects or interactions.
